While trying to install java on linux, the symlink error was encountered.

Possible solutions  :

  1. Check if you are the root or administrative user and make sure that you have the right permission to install.

Try switching to root using cmd

su root

then try installing the java

  1. If it fails, make sure that the file system permissions are ok.

In my particular case,   I was running a linux virtual machiene in a windows environment. And the installation file was located in the windows folder with the folder shared across to the linux environment.

Trying to install the java from the shared folder was the main problem in case.

Copying the “jdk tar”  file to the linux file system from the shared folder and then  installing did the trick in my case.
